Some good, some bad...
Recapping some of the most memorable movies we've watched over the past few years...
Breakfast at Tiffany's:
For some strange reason I decided this would be the first movie we would ever watch for movie night. I think it's really endearing but it wasn't that exciting
Harold And Maude:
I was also obsessed with Harold and Maude when we watched it during the first few months that we did this thing. Since then I find it a bit too hippyish for our tastes but if it's something you've never seen before you have to go out now and watch it.
The Lonely Guy:
Soo good. I've always been an early Steve Martin fan but this quickly became my favorite Steve Martin movie ever.
The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash:
One of the funniest movies we have ever watch at movie night. Everyone was tired of laughing by the end.
Bananas and Sleeper:
The two funniest and most zany Woody Allen movies. All others are much less recomended (EYAWTNASBWATA is also very good but hardly compares).
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra:
If you can get your hands on this, watch it. It is a 50's/60's sci-fi spoof but is probably the best of them all (I have seen some bad ones). Monsters, skeletons, magic spells, aliens from another world (that look just like humans) all in one amazing movie. "Climb these rocks as I do."
This is Spinal Tap:
Hurricane Juan hit while we were watching this and the power went out for two weeks. Who hasn't seen this anyway?
I Love You, Alice B. Toklas! and The Party:
Two of Peter Seller's greats. So zany and uncomfortable (in a good way, kind of). If I remember right I think I actually found Alice B. Toklas far better than The Party. The Party kind of dragged a bit.
Batman: The Movie (1966):
So funny. So, so good. So stupid. No one really knows if this (or other batman movies and television shows from the 60's) was actually meant to be serious (I don't really think so, but then...).
Young Frankenstein:
This is the only Mel Brooks movies that I can actually watch and feel like a non-racist adult. It's actually one of my all time favorites of all movies.
Cane Toads:
One of the few documentaries we've watched and probably the one that went over best. This is on the border between documentary and mockmentary, mostly by mocking the real lives of real people.
Meet the Feebles:
Possibly the most classic movie night movie. This is kind of a mock of the muppets but they do everything that you'd never want to see a muppet do. Everything. After seeing the movie we were so impressed the Maughams began covering one of the songs from the movie.
